Welcome to Feedback Kitchen

Build a custom marking rubric once, then generate consistent, criterion-level feedback for every student in seconds. Start by clicking Build a New Scorer below — the wizard takes around 10–20 minutes for a new assessment.

🔒

Your Scorers are saved in your browser's local storage — private to this device and browser. Use Export JSON inside the builder to back up your work or share a Scorer with a colleague. Note: JSON exports contain the Scorer configuration only — your personal feedback snippets stay private to your browser.

Not an autograder — you choose the grades, the tool drafts the feedback.

Your rubric. Your judgement.
Done in clicks.

Build a scorer once. Grade criterion by criterion. Generate editable, ready-to-paste feedback drafts for busy university educators — entirely in your browser, no student data ever leaves your device.

Grading at AI speed — without the autograder risks

Comparable to peer-reviewed benchmarks (e.g. Birmingham/Graide 2025: 74% time reduction, 7× feedback length) — without the autograder bias risks.

Why use Feedback Kitchen?

Consistent feedback across your whole marking team.

Editable drafts, not automated grading. You stay in control.

Runs entirely in your browser — no login, no account, nothing stored on a server.

Optional wording assistant (Ko-fi key required) — refines phrasing only, with names and IDs removed before any text leaves your browser.

What Feedback Kitchen doesn't do

The boundaries are the point.

Does not decide grades. You select every grade.

Does not invent comments. Only assembles sentences you wrote.

Does not upload student work to any server.

Does not require a login or institutional account.

Does not replace your LMS. Paste into Moodle, Canvas, Turnitin, or any other system as usual.

Wording assistant never sees identifiers — names and IDs are stripped first.

Adopt without waiting for IT approval

Because no personal data is shared with a third-party processor, Feedback Kitchen sits outside the institutional review threshold under the NZ Privacy Act 2020 and AU Privacy Act 1988.

No DPIA No vendor review No IT approval queue

For course coordinators and tutor teams

Build the rubric logic, weights, and feedback language once, then export the Scorer as JSON and distribute it to your tutor team. Every marker uses the same descriptors, the same intros, and the same closing paragraphs — directly addressing the inter-rater reliability problem on large cohorts.

No vendor procurement. No new institutional system. No movement of student data. Revise each semester and build a departmental library of vetted, reusable rubrics.

Everything You Need

Built for lecturers, course coordinators, and tutors who want speed, consistency, and quality feedback.¹

Custom Rubrics

Define your own criteria and weight them however you like. Add rubric descriptors for all four tiers — Excellent, Proficient, Developing, and Unsatisfactory.

Weighted Scoring

Set percentage weights per criterion. The tool automatically calculates weighted scores, applies late penalties, and suggests an overall grade.

Editable Feedback Draft

Each student gets a fully assembled feedback draft — intro, per-criterion commentary, score, late penalty notice, and a grade-tailored closing paragraph. Edit any of it before you send.

One-Click Export

Copy feedback to your clipboard, download a formatted Excel workbook with results, rubric, and feedback templates, or print directly to PDF.

Fully Customisable

Edit every intro and outro paragraph per grade level. Override any score manually. Add personalised comments alongside the auto-generated text.

Multiple Scorers

Build a separate scorer for each course or assessment. Save and switch between them. Export your config as JSON to share with colleagues.

How It Works

From rubric to ready-to-paste feedback in three steps.

1

Build Your Scorer

Use the guided wizard to set up your assessment details, define your criteria and weightings, write rubric descriptors for each tier, and customise the grade feedback text. Takes about 10–20 minutes for a new assessment.

2

Grade a Student

Enter the student's details, select a grade for each criterion from the dropdown, optionally override any score, choose a late penalty if applicable, and watch the overall score and feedback assemble in real time.

3

Export & Move On

Copy the feedback to your clipboard and paste it into Moodle, Turnitin, or your institution's grading system. Download an Excel record of the grading, or print to PDF. Hit "New Student" and repeat.
